Santos

Churches are full of stories - ones embedded in history, ones that come from scriptures and the individual ones told by the lives of the Saints. The saints have been known to transcend the stillness of wood and plaster and come to life as givers of miracles, helping everyday people solve their problems. In Latin America, the saints are more than effigies, they are friends and family who provide solace and hope at all levels of society. I wanted to isolate the saints from their rich and busy environment and engage with each one individually, to photograph them as if they were portraiture subjects rather than artifacts.
